Browsers
Firefox, Safari, Camino, Opera and Seamonkey are all browsers for the Macintosh OSX system.
I have used exclusively Safari for almost a year now, and before that have switched back and forth between Firefox, Camino and Safari. Safari used to have webpage compatibility issues and would crash or not open certain pages but now seems to be the smoothest, fastest, most stable and reliable browser available for Mac OSX. All the web browsers provide tabbed browsing, meaning that you do not have to open up and entirely new window each time you want to navigate to a different website-how convenient!
Firefox is super-stable and super compatible. It is also VERY customizable-there are hundreds of plug-ins to give Firefox new and different abilities that were not originally available. Navigate here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) if you want to learn more.
Camino is much like Firefox (it should be-it's made by the same people) and offers tabbed browsing and popup blockers, much like many other browsers for the Mac.
Opera is another free browser providing tabs and a popup blocker.
Seamonkey is unique in that it combines web-browser, email, newsgroups, IRC chat and HTML editing all into one program. (source:http://8help.osu.edu/1234.html) This sounds very convenient as it is an all in one for internet work!
In my experience, Safari or Firefox are both solid choices for your Mac system. It is always a good idea to have more than one browser on your computer in case you do come across the rare website with compatibility issues.
Feelin' aaaaalright
I actually got to sleep at around 1am last night...not as early as I had wanted to but early enough. I'm in the process of writing my paper for Human Dev right now (in the class) and I figured I'd blow some valuable time blogging...
That's all for now-expect a website update soon with blogger access...I just have to save all my pictures first :-\ which really sucks seeing that the hard drive with all the files is long dead...oh well

Update
Yesterday morning I got a scope down my throat...to look at my HEART!!!
I was knocked out thankfully and came to with my parents around me. Turns out that not only is there no hole in my heart, but it's in great shape..."pristine" I think is what the nurse/doctor lady said.
All in all, I'm glad it's over with-now on to the next doctor to see if my vision can be fixed but first...THANKSGIVING!!!
I cannot wait to spend a day full of food and fun with my family-I do have a lot to be thankful for after all, including the fact that I didn't lose half of my vision permanently.
I hope you all have a relaxing Thanksgiving and until you can't feel your legs anymore.
Talk to you soon!

I'M BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER
hey everybody!! thanks for all your well wishes through this strange time during the last two-three weeks.
I am pretty much all better...here is an update on my condition.
Since my episode I went and saw my primary care doctor, a neurologist, an ophthalmologist, a stroke specialist, got 2 MRIs, a ton of blood work and much prodding and poking around my body.
The blood work came back totally normal with no oddities showing up. The MRIs showed the scar tissue where my mini-stroke occurred (as you can see in the picture I already posted), but nothing else out of the ordinary showed up.
At the ophthalmologist, I received a field of vision test-which at the time had some pretty alarming results. The top left quarter (25%) of my left eye was almost completely missing-I could not see out of that corner (some peripheral and actual vision occurs there). The right eye was better but not perfect. Over the last three weeks or so, the vision has improved and I have gotten used to the rest of the seemingly permanent damage, however, it is still a constant annoyance and I am reminded all the time, everywhere I look that I could see better. The killer part is that I can not just get laser eye surgery or something...the damage is in my brain which makes it impossible to just rewire manually by a doctor-it has to heal on its own...if it even does. Nancy Shankman from the music education department gave me the name of a really great specialist at Columbia Presbyteryan Hospital that works on primarly returning vision to those who lost it due to brain trauma. I really hope he can help me...I want to drive my car agian (we're not sure about that...I think that my vision is okay enough to drive but we have to get my vision checked again...).
Okay, bedtime...you are all officially updated with my condition-perhaps I will update you all on the state of classwork or something next time (I know, thrilling).
I am in good spirits and feel great...I'm just happy to be here.

Specialist visit
I went to the specialist today at NYU Medical Center. We talked over what the causes of the stroke could have been. The good news is that, if the stroke was any farther back in the visual center I could have lost my eyesight permanently-that was a CLOSE one!!!!
All in all, my sight should recover (more or less), and I'm getting a test next week to make sure that my heart doesn't have a hole in it. The specialist said that if I have some sort of hole, it could have passed a clot to my brain. Scary!
That's pretty much a complete update, I'll be okay-for the most part.
See you all soon!!

Brain Blog
Hello everyone, I'm writing this to keep you all updated on everything in my life.
So Wednesday was going normally as every Wednesday usually does, Ruthie came over at around 10 or so and we were enjoying each other's company, having a nice time together. At around 12.30am I felt a sharp pain in the right side of my head. I reeled to the side and called out for my room mate. I lost feeling in my left arm and leg and tried to stand up but fell to the ground. Needless to say, I was very frightened. The light was turned on to check me out and I noticed a loss of my peripheral vision-uh-oh I thought. I was confused as to what the hell was goin on. The ambulance was called and I was brought to my local Bellvue Hospital. I stayed overnight and Mom and Dad picked me and Ruthie up, brought Ruthie back to M'Ville and me to my primary care doctor. I was still having trouble seeing out of part of my eyes-which worried me, obviously. My doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong with me so I went to a neuologist, and then today I got an MRI. Tonight I went to another neuologist and we looked at the MRI pictures. He deducted that I had a mini-stroke and should recover my eyesight. The eye-doctor said that my eyes were working perfectly but the brain was the problem-it wasn't translating part of my eyesight correctly. The eye doctor concluded that the top 25% of my left eye field of vision is pretty foggy and the right eye had the same thing but not as bad.
I feel okay now-the neuologist said that the condition came on out of nowhere, randomly and I couldn't have prevented it. He prescribed pills that will keep my veins and arteries in my brain open-that's what set it off-constricted arteries that stopped the flow of blood/sugar/water/whatever to a portion of my brain for whatever reason-who knows??
The point of the post is; I feel okay now and hope to recover eyesight 100% but who knows. I tried playing piano and remembering pieces that I've memorized and I did just fine-no music or piano parts of my brain were affected THANK GOD!
I hope you are all well...please don't worry about me, I'll be just fine. I hope everyone is relaxing for the weekend...thanks to all of you that called :) bye bye.

tired
I've been running back and forth from home (Putnam county-1 hour train ride) and school this past week. I went up to vote yesterday and then came down for class. Today I went to Uncle Frank's funeral in Yonkers and now I'm back down here. Tomorrow, I'm going to Manhattanville to do the Wind Ensemble thing as usual-I know people commute to NYC everyday from the suburbs, but I'm not used to this. :-\
